Breast reconstruction surgery stands at the forefront of reconstructive and aesthetic surgical procedures, offering physical and psychological restoration for individuals who have undergone mastectomy or experienced congenital breast anomalies. This review provides a comprehensive overview of contemporary techniques, advancements in surgical approaches, and considerations in patient selection. It delves into the multidisciplinary nature of breast reconstruction, emphasizing the collaborative efforts of surgical oncologists, plastic surgeons, and oncology nurses in achieving optimal outcomes. Furthermore, the review explores emerging technologies, including autologous tissue transfer, implant-based reconstructions, and novel advances in 3D imaging for surgical planning.
